15th October 1992
Last year’s Gala Ball, at Alexandra Palace for the first time, also witnessed HAPC’s first lottery draw, with a total prize money of £4,500.
Following the announcement of the 1992 lottery, a tremendous effort was made by our numerous supporters to sell lottery tickets in the months leading up to the Gala Ball and, together with HAPC’s presence at various outdoor fairs and festivals, we can now say it was a huge success. On the day of the Ball the draw was made by Mrs. S. Mani, wife of the Deputy Mayor of Lewisham, the chief guest at the function.
The list of winners is published opposite, and as can be seen most of the winners have claimed their winnings, some even donating it back to HAPC. However several winners have so far failed to respond to the notification of their win. The majority of winners were sent a cheque through the post, however the first, second and third prize winners attended a special presentation at the offices of Barclays de Zoete Wedd in the City of London on 13 October 1992. The presentation was made by BZW’s Chief Executive Mr. David Band. Our sincere thanks to BZW for their kind hospitality which was made available at no cost to the Charity.
Now as HAPC embarks on its second lottery, we can look back to our first lottery venture with some measure of success, having achieved a profit of £2,234.61. Also the lottery has provided a means of raisingawareness of HAPC in the wider community by attendance and promotion of the lottery at various Borough and County fairs and festivals. This year HAPC has been present at several outdoor festivals including the “Save Goa Campaign”, SCOGO, and the “Festival of India”, the latter of these enabling HAPC to raise its profile within the Indian community, and also make contact with those involved with the Asian media.
However, most importantly, the lottery indicates the level of support HAPC enjoys from the local communities, as well as others whom we have come to rely upon, and who have made an effort to sell tickets.
Here we would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of our first ever lottery and again supported us this year. HAPC recognises that without these promoters HAPC would be unable to continue to fund the projects and causes it is dedicated to help. A very special mention must be made of our 1993 sponsors for the Grand Lottery – Travel Agents, Hayes & Jarvis, Cidade de Goa Hotel and Park Hotels. Thanks to their generous and invaluable contribution, the Charity can look forward to another successful fund-raising year.
Once again, therefore, we would like to express sincere thanks, on behalf of HAPC, to all our promoters and all those who have participated in both our lottery ventures.
